Plea in drug case brings 18-month prison term

March 06, 1998

A Mount Airy man who pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute cocaine will serve no more than 18 months in prison under a plea agreement reached in Carroll County Circuit Court yesterday.

Sentencing for Raymond Dorsey, 31, of the 800 block of E. Ridgeville Blvd., is scheduled April 16. He could have received up to five years in prison, prosecutors said.

Dorsey was arrested Jan. 17 when he returned to his apartment as police were completing a drug raid, prosecutors said. A police dog trained to detect drugs alerted officers to the presence of narcotics in his car, prosecutors said.

Police found 3.6 grams of cocaine in a film canister in a fast-food restaurant bag in the car and seized $1,333 in Dorsey's possession, prosecutors said.
