Bussey gets probation for stealing equipment

March 05, 1998|By FROM STAFF REPORTS

Former county public works supervisor Gary W. Bussey has been ordered to serve three years on probation and perform 200 hours of community service for stealing $158,000 in county property to supply his backyard auto shop.

Anne Arundel County Circuit Judge Clayton R. Greene Jr. suspended Monday a one-year jail term for the Severn man. In November, Bussey, 45, of the 1700 block of Severn Road entered an Alford plea to felony theft; he did not admit guilt but conceded there was evidence to convict him.

Bussey used the county purchasing system to acquire paint, welding machinery, paint guns, impact wrenches and other equipment between July 1992 and March 1995. Officials hauled it from his yard in a raid.
