Helen E. Gumenick, 74, nurse, homemaker

Helen E. Gumenick, a homemaker and former registered nurse, died of a heart attack Jan. 31 at Sinai Hospital. The Pikesville resident was 74.

Mrs. Gumenick, who was a 1945 graduate of the Sinai Hospital School of Nursing, served in the Army Nurse Corps from 1945 until 1946 and was discharged with the rank of lieutenant.

She worked for many years as a nurse at Sinai and retired in 1973.

Services for the former Helen E. Rodgers, a native of Saluda, S.C., were held Feb. 3.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Herman Gumenick; three sons, Sidney D. Gumenick of Pikesville, Eugene H. Gumenick of Randallstown and Michael D. Gumenick of Baltimore; a daughter, Jacqueline Gimbel of Guilford; three brothers, Victor Rodgers of Prosperity, S.C., Lester Rodgers of Hanahen, S.C., and R. B. Rodgers of Saluda; a sister, Marie Forest of Saluda; and five grandchildren.

Jerome M. Katz, 68, city real estate official

Jerome M. Katz, who was a longtime city government real estate official, died of a brain tumor Dec. 29 at Milford Mill Nursing Home. The Randallstown resident was 68.

Mr. Katz worked in the land acquisition section of the Baltimore Department of Housing and Community Development from 1955 to 1993 and was a supervisor of real estate agents.

The New York City native moved to Baltimore as a teen-ager, graduated from Baltimore City College high school in 1946 and served in the Army until 1948.

He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Baltimore in the early 1950s and graduated from its law school in 1955.

Services were held in Jan. 2.

He is survived by his wife, the former Marjorie Dubin, whom he married in 1972; a son, David Andrew Katz, and a daughter, Erica Dawn Katz, both of Baltimore.
