Southwestern District

Bribery try/arrest: After Officer Schuyler Denham arrested a man on an auto theft charge in the 300 block of S. Catherine St. on Monday, the man allegedly offered Denham $200 if he would let him go. Denham refused and charged Allen Thorpe, 30, of the 8200 block of N. Boundary Road in Dundalk with attempted bribery and auto theft. Thorpe was being held in lieu of $15,000 bond at the Central Booking and Intake Center.

Northwestern District

Carjacking: A motorist was stopped in the 2800 block of Druid Park Drive to use his cell phone about 11 p.m. Tuesday when a gunman forced him out of his white 1991 Mercedes-Benz with tags DWH 813 and drove off.

Western District

Drug arrests: A man possessing 19 vials of suspected cocaine was arrested Tuesday in the 1900 block of N. Monroe St. In an unrelated incident the same day in the 1500 block of W. Lafayette Ave., police arrested a 33-year-old man in possession of 10 small plastic bags of suspected crack cocaine.

Northern District

Theft from vehicle: A laptop computer valued at more than $4,000 was stolen Tuesday from a Ford Astro van parked in the 200 block of Edgevale Road.

Cockeysville Precinct

Robbery try/arrests: A woman was in the 200 block of Mount Carmel Road about 3 p.m. Tuesday when a man tried to steal her purse. After a struggle, the man entered a car occupied by another man and a woman and sped off. Later, police stopped the car and arrested its occupants. Charged with assault and attempted robbery are Kevin Browning, 23, of the 4200 block of Beckleysville Road, Parkton; Barry Daughton, 33, of the 900 block of Quaker Bottom Road, Sparks; and Janelle Piluk, 21, of the 2100 block of Gibson Road, White Hall.

Garrison Precinct

Burglary: Jewelry valued at nearly $8,000 was stolen from the bedroom night stand of a house in the 4600 block of Waterfall Court in Owings Mills between Jan. 25 and Feb. 14. The burglary was reported Tuesday.

Essex Precinct

Suspicious fire: A two-alarm fire reported about 6 p.m. yesterday in a unit at the vacant Riverdale Apartments in the first block of Byway has been ruled suspicious. No injuries were reported. About 100 firefighters using 31 pieces of equipment brought the fire under control in less than hour.

Arrest: Members of the Maryland Joint Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force yesterday arrested Archie Melvin Lynch, 29, in the 600 block of N. Robinson St., who was charged in a warrant with attempted murder in a June 12, 1996, incident in which a man was wounded twice in a drive-by shooting in the 400 block of N. Patterson Park Ave. Lynch of the 2300 block of E. Eager St. was being held at the Central Booking and Intake Center.
