Special shows for record buffs

So you think you've hit every used record store in town? Yet you're still searching for that out-of-print 45? Can't for the life of you find any more 8-tracks? Really want that Belgium-only released CD by your favorite band? Wondering if you'll ever be able to watch that first Beatles appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show" again? Hoping to somehow track down the original sheet music to the Rolling Stones' "Satisfaction"? You may want to try your luck at a few record shows. These informal gatherings of buyers, sellers and traders offer an array of music and music memorabilia to satisfy most every musical palate, and they take place in virtually every area of the country and beyond. Alexandria Record and CD Show, Howard Johnson, Exit 1 off I-95/I-495, Alexandria, Va. 410-636-5783. Admission $3. Held three or four times a year on Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. About 60 tables. Large selection of collectible vinyl and CDs. Also, many posters and musical rarities. Sponsored by Record Show Inc.

Arbutus Record and CD Show, the Arbutus Fire Hall, 5200 Southwestern Blvd., Exit 12A off I-695, Arbutus. 410-455-0418. Admission free. Held on the third Sunday of each month, except on the fourth Sunday of May, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (No show in July.) About 120 tables. Largest vinyl show in Maryland with LPs, 45s, 78s. Columbia CD and Record Mart, Hilton Inn Hotel, 5485 Twin Knolls Road, Columbia. 410-757-6182. Admission $4. Held once a year on Super Bowl Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. About 55 tables. Large CD, vinyl, tape and memorabilia selection. Sponsored by Annapolis Marketing Inc.

Greater Baltimore Collectors Mart, Pikesville Guard Armory, 610 Reisterstown Road, Exit 20 off I-695, Pikesville. 410-757-6182. Admission $3. Held twice a year (spring and fall) on a Saturday or Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. About 200 tables. Many toys, games, comics, cards and antiques. Not many music-related tables. Greater Washington, D.C. and College Park CD and Record Show, Riverdale Elks Lodge, 6700 Kenilworth Ave., Exit 23 South off I-495, College Park. 410-750-3730. Admission $2; free for seniors and kids.
