Hanson leaves Towson beaming

Sophomore Heather Hanson took first place on the balance beam and the floor exercise for the second week in a row to lead Towson University to the Bermuda Classic gymnastics title yesterday with a score of 191.85.

Hanson tied the school record with a 9.85 on the beam.

TRACK AND FIELD: Johns Hopkins' Nkiruka Emeagwali won the 55-meter dash in 7.60 seconds at the Centennial Conference indoor championship in Carlisle, Pa.

DIVING: Maryland's Kevin Burke won the 3-meter event to add to his first place in the 1-meter event Thursday, and was named the top diver at the Atlantic Coast Conference championship in Charlottesville, Va.

SOFTBALL: Maryland junior Kelly Shipman (Northern-Calvert) pitched her second career perfect game in a 9-0, five-inning decision over UMBC at the East Carolina Pirate Classic on Friday.
