UMES gets off to fast start, trounces Morgan State, 53-33 Council, Sheldon lead way

Nicole Council and Kristi Sheldon each scored a game-high 10 points, leading UMES past Morgan State, 53-33, in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game yesterday at Baltimore City Community College.

UMES built a 30-15 halftime margin. Monique Liddell scored seven points to lead Morgan, which shot only 25 percent (10-for-40) for the game, including 6-for-25 in the second half.

Morgan will meet North Carolina A&T in the MEAC tournament play-in game Tuesday morning at 10 in Richmond, Va.

Bethune-Cookman 67, Coppin State 62: D'Shaun Watts had a game-high 22 points as the host Wildcats (7-18) rallied past the Eagles (9-17) in an MEAC game.

Bethune-Cookman trailed 30-26 at halftime, but shot over 53 percent in the second half in outscoring the Eagles 41-32.

Simone Adams led Coppin with 20 points and 13 rebounds.
