Girl charged with murder in death of newborn

March 01, 1998

WALDORF -- A 15-year-old Waldorf girl gave birth to a son in her mother's apartment, then held him for 2 1/2 hours before smothering the infant and hiding the body under her bed, police said.

Arrested Friday, Dyneaka Hall was charged as an adult with first-degree murder and child abuse. She was being held without bail yesterday at the Charles County jail.

The birth was discovered when Hall's mother woke her for school on Monday and found her bleeding. Hall was taken to a hospital where she first denied giving birth, police said, then confessed.

Police said Hall wrapped the baby in a nightgown, put a cloth over his face and tied him in a plastic bag. An autopsy by the state medical examiner's office indicated he died of asphyxiation.
