Korean and American ceramics

February 26, 1998|By John Dorsey

In 1990, ceramic artists Tom Supensky of Towson University and Dong-Hun Chung of Won Kwang University in Korea began a series of annual symposiums in their field. In 1997 Chung was invited to be artist-in-residence at Towson. Out of the two artists' association has now come "Friendship in Clay," the current exhibit at Towson's Holtzman Gallery. It brings together works by Korean artists residing in the United States and Canada and American artists who have worked in Korea. Among other things, the exhibit highlights comparisons between traditional influences and contemporary directions in clay, since one of Chung's efforts in recent years has been to introduce American and European aesthetic philosophies to Korea.

At Holtzman Gallery, Fine Arts Center, Osler and Cross Campus drives, Towson University, through March 18. Noon to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. For information call 410-830-2787.
