City police charged a 30-year-old truck driver with murder yesterday in the early morning shooting death of his girlfriend at their Northeast Baltimore apartment building.
An unrelated killing about six hours earlier -- also in the northeast section of the city -- remained under investigation.
The boyfriend, Tony Williams, called police at 4: 20 a.m. from a pay phone to report that he had returned home and found Dana Rochelle Drake, 33, dead in a stairwell of the building in the 800 block of Dartmouth Road, said homicide Detective Carol Opher.
He and Drake, a nurse, had been living together about five years and have a 5-year-old daughter, Opher said.
Police found Drake with gunshot wounds her back and head. Witnesses told investigators they saw a man running from the apartment after the gunshots, Opher said.
Neighbors said they had heard Williams and Drake screaming at each other on several occasions and they apparently had been having an argument, according to Opher.
The earlier slaying was reported at 10: 40 p.m. Friday.
Quinton Derrick McLellan, 29, of the 700 block of Exeter Hall Ave., was found with multiple gunshot wounds about two blocks away at Frisby and East 30th streets, police said.
Two males were seen leaving the scene, but no motive or suspects were known, police said.
