February 04, 1998

More than 20 residents of Velvet Run and the Old Manchester Road area in Westminster reported the thefts of money and items from their unlocked vehicles Monday night, state police said.

Twenty-two residents reported thefts and more than 30 vehicles were involved, said Tfc. Frank Quisay of the Westminster barracks.

Teens or young adults are suspected in the thefts, Quisay said.

"They roamed through the area and hit every unlocked car," he said.

One resident lost a purse and another was missing a camouflage jacket, the trooper said. One resident reported seeing someone behind his home, and troopers used a helicopter to search the area without success, Quisay said.

Anyone with information about the incidents may call Tfc. Jerry Immler at the Westminster barracks of the Maryland State Police at 410-848-3111.
