Navy holds on, tops Holy Cross

Chris Williams converted seven of eight free throws in the final 4: 40 and Michael Heary added two with 10 seconds left to lead Navy to a 72-69 win over Holy Cross last night in Worcester, Mass.

Skip Victor led the Midshipmen (11-8, 6-0 Patriot League) with 16 points, with Sitapha Savane adding 14. Jon Kerr of Holy Cross (5-15, 1-5) led all scorers with 27.

Johns Hopkins 63, Franklin & Marshall 55: Sophomore forward Nino Vanin scored all of his team-high 15 points in the second half to lead the Blue Jays (13-4, 5-1) past the host Diplomats (9-8, 4-2) and into first place in the Centennial Conference West Division.

Goucher 96, St. Mary's 57: Bakari Ward (Arundel) scored 27 to power the host Gophers past the Seahawks in a Capital Athletic Conference contest.

Ursinus 81, Washington College 74: The host Bears built a 48-31 halftime lead and survived being outscored 43-33 in the second half to take a Centennial Conference win over the Shoremen.


Salisbury State 93, Catholic 67: Amy Cooke scored a game-high 24 as the Sea Gulls hammered the visiting Cardinals (5-10, 1-6) in a CAC game.

St. Mary's 69, Goucher 44: The visiting Seahawks (12-4, 6-1) used a 17-2 run midway through the second half and took a CAC win over the Gophers (1-16, 0-7).
