Pasadena man, 84, flees armed robber Gunman steals vehicle after getting a ride

An 84-year-old Pasadena man escaped injury in a carjacking Sunday afternoon -- robbed by a man to whom he had offered a ride, county police said.

Police were searching for a suspect, identified as Michael M. Mullett, 27, of the 7800 block of W. Riverside Drive in Pasadena, who police said is also wanted for walking away from a nine-month sentence while on work release for failure to pay child support.

Mullett failed to return to the county detention center Jan. 16, according to police. He has been charged in a warrant with armed carjacking.

The victim, Stanley J. Grembocki, told police he was standing in his driveway in the 500 block of Sixth St. about 1: 30 p.m. Sunday when a man walked up and asked to use his telephone because his car had run out of gas around the corner.

Grembocki gave the man his cell phone, but said he was not certain that the man had actually reached someone and offered him a can of gasoline and a ride back to his car, according to police.

The victim said he became nervous while driving because the man directed him farther away than he expected. Grembocki stopped his car on Woods Road in Pasadena and told the man he could have his car and his money. But the man told Grembocki not to get out of the car and pointed a revolver at him.

Grembocki reported that he was able to get out of the car and called police from a nearby house.

The robber was last seen driving the victim's blue 1979 Chrysler LeBaron on Woods Road toward Magothy Beach Road, police said.
