Police Blotter is a sampling of crimes in Baltimore and Baltimore County.

Eastern District

Double shooting: Two men were in the 1100 block of Greenmount Ave. about 6 p.m. Monday when a gunman standing in an alley fired several shots, hitting one in the back and both legs and the other in the right leg. They were treated at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Southwestern District

Rape/robbery: A man broke into a house in the 2700 block of W. North Ave. about 4 a.m. Monday and raped a woman in her bedroom. The man also stole a television, jewelry, pager, radio, video games and a watch, all valued at nearly $300. The woman was treated at Mercy Medical Center.

Woodlawn Precinct

Carjack try/shooting: Two men were seated in an Acura Vigor parked outside the Fairlanes Bowling Center in the 6400 block of Security Blvd. about 9 p.m. Monday when three men, one with a handgun, ordered them out of the car. The passenger got out. But when the 51-year-old driver refused, the gunman fired into the car, hitting him in the right shoulder, right hand and stomach. The suspects fled on foot. The victim was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center and was in serious condition yesterday.

Suspect arrested: Members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested Gregory Newman, 20, of the 3900 block of Dorchester Road yesterday on a warrant charging him with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of Leon Elem, 19, of the 5200 block of Saybrook Road in Northeast Baltimore on Jan. 23, 1997, in the 3300 block of Edgewood St. Two other suspects have been arrested over the past several days.

Victim's car found: A 1980 Chevrolet Citation with handicap tags 61606 and belonging to an 86-year-old homicide victim was found by police yesterday in the 400 block of E. 31st St. Ernest T. Hildebrandt of the 1300 block of Park Ave. was beaten by a car thief and his vehicle was stolen from behind his home Jan. 8. Hildebrandt died of his injuries Jan. 16. No arrest has been made in the case.
