Bowers had five first-period pins, the last over Curley's Shawn Calhoun, for the 135-pound title at the South River Tournament. The junior is 14-0 with 11 pins.

Indoor track

At the National Guard Meet, Carter, a sophomore, won the 55-meter dash, tying a personal best time of 7.2, and placed third in the 500 (1: 22.1) as the Lightning finished second as a team with 28 points.

Indoor track

McKelvin tied the track record in the 55 hurdles (7.3) and finished third in the high jump (6-2) at the National Guard Meet. The senior also qualified for the high school nationals.
