Sykesville OKs King holiday observance

January 16, 1998

Sykesville employees have an unexpected day off Monday.

The Town Council has voted to amend the municipal handbook to include an annual observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday starting this year.

It brings to 10 the number of paid holidays for the staff of about 20.

"This holiday is observed everywhere else," said Councilman Eugene Johnson. "We should be involved as quickly as possible."

The town will make alternative arrangements for Monday's commercial trash collection. The Police Department will remain open.
