Mount St. Mary's romps past Monmouth Hayden, Bethel on target to spark 78-61 victory

Mount St. Mary's combined three-point shooting and career highs in points from juniors Tony Hayden and Eric Bethel en route to a 78-61 victory over Monmouth in a Northeast Conference game last night in West Long Branch, N.J.

Hayden scored 24 and Bethel 22 in leading the Mount to its first win at Monmouth since 1993. The Mount (6-7, 2-2 NEC) hit 10 three-pointers in the first half to take a 44-26 halftime lead. Joe Fermino led Monmouth (1-13, 0-4) with 18.

UMES 78, Rider 69: Cryhten Langhore scored a team-high 16 points to lead the host Fighting Hawks (5-8) over the Broncs (10-4) in a nonconference game.

Johns Hopkins 92, Gettysburg 51: Greg Roehrig scored 22 as the Blue Jays (8-4, 2-1) routed the Bullets (6-7, 1-2) in Centennial Conference action.

Salisbury State 103, Gallaudet 83: George Robinson scored 20 points to lead five Sea Gulls (6-5, 2-1) in double figures in a win over visiting Gallaudet (2-7, 1-1) in a Capital Athletic Conference game.

HTC Harford CC 78, Essex CC 75, OT: James Smith hit a three-pointer with a minute left to lift visiting Harford Community College (5-11) over Essex CC in Maryland JuCo League action.

Goucher 90, York 64: Bakari Ward (Arundel) and Tavar Witherspoon each had 24 point to lead the Gophers (8-4) over the Spartans (2-9) in Capital Athletic Conference play.


Johns Hopkins 50, Gettysburg 40: The Blue Jays (10-2, 4-0) -- led by Joy Vaccaro with 12 -- trailed 17-11 at the half before outscoring the Bullets (7-3, 3-1) by 16 in the second half for a Centennial Conference win.

York 81, Goucher 43: Freshman Amy Anderson led all scorers with 20 points and powered visiting York (4-8) past Goucher (1-12) in Capital Athletic Conference action.

Western Maryland 93, Dickinson 74: Freshman center Jill Ibex (Westminster) came off the bench to score a season-high 21 points to lead Western Maryland (7-4, 3-1) over Dickinson in a Centennial Conference game.

Villa Julie 58, Hood 47: Heidi Moldenhauer helped the Mustangs (1-10) get their first win with 19 points and 13 rebounds.
