Board of education head to remain in post

January 15, 1998

C. Scott Stone will remain president of the Carroll County Board of Education for another year, and Gary V. Bauer vice president in posts they have held for 12 months.

The five-member board traditionally elects the member who has been vice president the previous year to serve as president .

But Bauer called Stone the better spokesman for the board, which is facing a particularly challenging several months: the search for a new superintendent to replace Brian Lockard, who will retire at the end of June; contract negotiations with the five employee unions; a more assertive budget request to the commissioners; redrawing of the boundaries for several schools; and the construction of new schools.

"It's going to be a tough year," Bauer said.
