County budget to be topic of Westminster meeting

The Carroll County Democratic Club is sponsoring a meeting with Steven D. Powell, director of the county's Management and Budget Department, at 7: 30 p.m. tomorrow at the Westminster branch library.

Powell will discuss issues relating to the county budget.

The public is welcome to attend. The library is at 50 E. Main St.

Public meeting to address growth-control proposal

The Carroll County Commissioners will hold a public information meeting on the proposed concurrency management ordinance at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Westminster Senior Center.

Public comment will be taken on the changes made to the ordinance since a public hearing was held.

Philip Rovang and Marlene Conaway, director and assistant director of planning and development, respectively, and Laurell Taylor, acting county attorney, will explain changes, administrative procedures and other aspects of the proposed ordinance, which is aimed at controlling growth.

Copies of the revised ordinance are available in the planning office, Room 306, Carroll County Office Building, 225 N. Center St., Westminster.

Nominations are sought for volunteer awards

Entries are being accepted for the 1998 JCPenny Golden Rule Awards program.

The award is presented to individuals and groups who better the lives of others through their volunteer efforts.

Cash awards will be presented to individuals for the organization they are associated with. Local winners then go on to the national Golden Rule Awards.

Nomination forms are available at all JCPenny stores at the catalog desk. Deadline for nominations is March 6.
