Sonia Chase scored 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Maryland to a 74-60 win over South Carolina at the St. Peter's Tournament in Jersey City, N.J.

Kelly Gibson had 13 points and a game-high six assists for the women Terrapins (8-3), who scored 19 points off turnovers.

Virginia Tech 89, UMBC 36: Kelly Drinka scored a career-best 24 points as the Hokies (6-3) cruised by the Retrievers (3-8) in the opening round of the Diamond Club Classic in Blacksburg, Va.

Mount St. Mary's 56, Drexel 51: Megan Gardiner had a game-high 23 points and 11 rebounds to lift the Mountaineers (4-5) over the visiting Dragons (4-6) in a nonconference game.


Villa Julie 74, College of Staten Island 70: Mike Palmere scored 21 points and Brock Jourdan added nine points and three steals as the Mustangs (1-8) won the consolation game of the 4th Annual White Rose City Classic.

Embry-Riddle 87, Goucher 76: Anthony Burroughs scored 19 points as the host Eagles (7-5) beat the Gophers (6-4) in the Land of Magic Classic in Daytona Beach, Fla.
