Man, 31, fatally shot in East Baltimore

December 30, 1997|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

A 31-year-old man was fatally shot yesterday afternoon in an apparent drug deal gone bad, police said.

Homicide Detective C. Francis Macer III said Christopher Anthony Carter of the 1800 block of N. Chester St. got out of a car in the 1800 block of N. Durham St., in East Baltimore, about 3: 15 p.m. and was seen giving another man an undisclosed sum of money in an apparent narcotics transaction.

Macer said that before Carter received anything, he exchanged words with the other man, who pulled a handgun and pointed it at Carter.

Carter turned to run and fell to the pavement, then was shot once in the back before he could get up, Macer said.

Carter was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he died at 4: 22 p.m., Macer said.
