Going White

HOME FRONT

December 28, 1997|By Karol V. Menzie | Karol V. Menzie,Sun Staff

It's bright, it's fresh, it's a real perker-upper on a gray winter day: It's white, and it's today's cool color. When everything went floral in the '80s, white was relegated to woodwork and underwear. But now housewares manufacturers are rediscovering the beauty of the color of light.

What could be crisper than white linens on the bed? What could be more cheerful than a vase full of white blooms? White objects on a white mantel look sleek and sophisticated; white bowls and chargers on the table look delightfully old-fashioned and comforting. Overhead (paint) or under foot (rugs), white is soothing and eye-catching -- and it goes with absolutely everything.
