Hatten stars as Mervo stops City No. 1 Dunbar breezes in win over Poly, 89-64

Junior Marcus Hatten scored a team-high 17 points with seven rebounds and three assists to help No. 17 Mervo to a 53-47 win over visiting City yesterday. Senior Dominic Fulcher had a game-high 19 points for City (4-2, 0-1).

Senior Damien Jenifer added 15 points, six rebounds and five assists while senior Hugh Brown scored eight points with 12 rebounds for Mervo (3-2, 1-1).

Mervo took a 24-15 lead into halftime in a game that was officiated by one referee.

No. 1 Dunbar 89, Poly 64: Junior Donteaz Dean scored a game-high 26 points to lead the visiting Poets (6-1) over the Engineers (1-5). Junior Jamal Brown added 24 points for Dunbar.

No. 8 Calvert Hall 88, Laurel Baptist 50: Junior Reggie Bryant and senior Freddie Biggs scored 21 points apiece to lead the No.8 Cardinals (8-1) over Laurel Baptist in a Good Counsel Classic Tournament game.

Girls basketball

No.8 St. Frances 61, Carver 29: Freshman Shanika Wallace scored 17 points with nine rebounds to lead the visiting Panthers (9-0) over the Bears (2-3).

No. 13 Western 51, Prendergast 47: Tyesha McMillion had a team-high 12 points as the Doves (4-2) won two of three at the Good Counsel Tournament.

Elizabeth Seton 50, No. 14 Seton Keough 36: Jennie Brown scored 19 points as the host Roadrunners (5-3), ranked 14th in the D.C. area by the Washington Post, pushed the Gators' (2-4) losing streak to three games.
