Geography bee winner named at Winchester

Fifth-grader Christine Wilkin is the champion of the William Winchester Elementary School geography bee held last week. Runner-up is Lindsay Love.

Christine will now take a written test. If she is among the top 100 scorers in the state, she will compete in the Maryland National Geographic Geography Bee on April 3. The bees are sponsored by the National Geographic Society and Sylvan Learning Center for elementary and middle school students.

The other semifinalists at Winchester were Nick Addicks, Rachel Clift, Bilal Durrani, Bobby Lennon, Matt Martin, Danny McCloud, Casey Pecore and Chris Stinnette.

Fire

Westminster: Firefighters from Reese, Pleasant Valley and Manchester assisted Westminster at 5: 58 a.m. Monday, responding to an electrical fire in an apartment in the first block of Pennsylvania Ave. Units were out 1 1/2 hours.

Police

Westminster: A resident of Windsor Drive told police Monday that someone damaged a tire on his vehicle while it was parked outside his home. Damage was estimated at $130.

Westminster: A resident of Windsor Drive told police Monday that someone stole a spare tire from his vehicle while it was parked outside his home. The loss was estimated at $100.

Westminster: A resident of Eagles Court told police Sunday that someone stole driving lights from his vehicle while it was parked outside his home. The loss was estimated at $100.

Westminster: Griffith Auto Park on Baltimore Boulevard told police Monday that someone broke a window on a vehicle parked on the company lot and stole a stereo. The loss was estimated at $1,350.
