DeMatha, coached by Elkridge resident Dick Messier, was 12th, No. 3 Calvert Hall 20th, No. 1 Hammond 30th and No. 9 McDonogh 32nd in yesterday's 35-team Mid-Atlantic Wrestling Classic at the University of Delaware.

The highest local finishers were Calvert Hall's No. 1 Rob Johns (135, fifth) and McDonogh's No. 1 Will Filbert (112, sixth), a two-time state champ and last year's National Prep champ.

Both Johns and Filbert reached the semifinals before losing.

Blair Academy, the mythical national champion over the past two seasons, won the event, tabbed "The Beast of the East," featuring nine teams that were ranked No. 1 in their states.
