A 17-year-old Northeast Baltimore youth has been arrested and charged as an adult in the shooting of a Christmas tree salesman during a robbery last week.

Officers from the Violent Crimes Task Force arrested Devin Dye on Friday night at his home in the 1900 block of Ramblewood Road. Dye was charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault, robbery and a handgun violation, said Agent Ragina L. Cooper, a city police spokeswoman.

The victim, David Schlegel of Toledo, Ohio, was selling trees at Belvedere Gardens Shopping Center in the 5800 block of Hillen Road at 8 p.m. Tuesday when he was robbed by a gunman and two accomplices.

After he handed over the money, he tried to flee and was shot in the back. Schlegel was treated at Johns Hopkins Hospital and released.
