1994 Lar de Barros, Bodegas Inviosa, Ribera del Guadiana...

Wine of the week

December 21, 1997|By Michael Dresser

1994 Lar de Barros, Bodegas Inviosa, Ribera del Guadiana ($10).

This might well be the finest vintage so far for this little-known but excellent Spanish red wine. The piney quality the wine often displays is more muted than in past years, perhaps because the fruit flavor is more intense. The black currant and herb flavors blend nicely, and the firm structure suggests that the wine could age for five years or more -- though I've never heard of anyone keeping their hands off a bottle of Lar de Barros for that long.
