Man sentenced to two years for violating probation

A Hagerstown man, who is facing a rape charge in Frederick County, was sentenced yesterday in Carroll County Circuit Court to two years in prison for violating his probation in a 1995 Mount Airy burglary conviction.

Gabriel B. Bentz, 21, received a two-year suspended sentence Sept. 4, 1996, after he pleaded guilty to breaking into Baltimore/Washington Truck Equipment Inc. to steal more than $5,000 in property.

Probation officials said Bentz failed to report to them Sept. 16 and did not notify them of his arrest Sept. 19 on the rape charge, court records show.

Bentz is being held in lieu of $350,000 bail at the Frederick County Detention Center, awaiting trial on the rape charge, court records show.
