Westminster man receives probation in child pornography case

December 16, 1997

A Westminster man who pleaded guilty in August to distributing a videotape showing frontal nudity of a juvenile was placed on five years' probation yesterday.

Carroll Circuit Judge Francis M. Arnold originally imposed a three-year prison sentence on Michael J. Potts, 22, of the 600 block of Ridge Road. Arnold then suspended the term, ordering that, while on probation, Potts continue counseling, have no contact with the victim or his family, and have no unsupervised contact with anyone under 16, except members of his own family.

Potts pleaded guilty Aug. 28 before Judge Luke K. Burns Jr. to distribution of child pornography stemming from his enticing a Westminster boy to make the videotape between March 25, 1996, and April 15, 1996.
