A couple forced their way into the Columbia home of a 34-year-old man last night, tied him up, banged his head against the floor several times and robbed him of cash and his bank card, Howard County police said.

Police said that about 7: 25 p.m., a woman knocked on the victim's door in the 8800 block of Spiral Cut in Long Reach village, told him her car had broken down and she needed to use the telephone.

When the victim opened the door, the woman and a man with a knife forced their way inside and ordered the occupant to the floor, police said. The robbers tied his hands and feet and repeatedly struck his head against the floor while demanding the personal identification number for his bank card, police said.

The robbers escaped with the victim's wallet, which contained an undisclosed amount of cash and his bank card, police said.

A neighbor heard the victim yelling for help and called police. The victim was treated for facial injuries at Howard County General Hospital and was released, police said.
