Boat beat: After a night of big waves and 32 knots, the Whitbread fleet is hanging close together with plucky Innovation Kvaerner back in the mix. The placement of the boats is temporary, based on measuring the rhumbline and is expected to change by the next position report. Both EF Language, the team that won Leg 1, and Swedish Match, which won Leg 2, continue to tack inshore while the rest of the fleet is heading southeast away from the coast. Fewer than eight miles separate the fleet.

Weather: An area of high pressure near 40S/110E and is expanding.
