Benefit at 'For Richer or Poorer' to use entire theater

December 09, 1997

Tickets sold so briskly for the opening of "For Richer or Poorer" that the Carroll County Arts Council has expanded its benefit party to take the entire theater at Cranberry Mall for the early evening show on Friday.

Sandy Oxx, the council's executive director, said the group "sold 145 tickets out of 100" since the benefit was announced last month.

"It so quickly exceeded our first ticket goal that we decided to buy the entire house," she said, "with the confidence that the ticket momentum will keep going at this pace."

They now have all 225 tickets for the local showing at Hoyt Cinemas, as "For Richer or Poorer" opens nationwide on Dec. 12.

The Tim Allen-Kirstie Alley comedy was largely shot in Westminster and at a farm north of the city last spring and summer, with additional filming in Baltimore, and in Anne Arundel, Harford and Baltimore counties.

The arts council party is by reservation only, at a cost of $25 for members and $35 for nonmembers, which includes a six-month arts council membership. Reservations may be made through the council (410-848-7272). The movie tickets will be distributed at the reception.

Proceeds will go to the council's scholarship program for fTC children who couldn't otherwise afford lessons in music, painting, dance or other arts, Oxx said.

The benefit will feature a light supper from 5 p.m. to 6: 30 p.m. at the Carroll County Arts Council Gallery in Winchester Exchange, 15 E. Main St., Oxx said.
