Mount falls, 81-73, in Iowa tourney State

Mount St. Mary's got double-digit scoring from Gregory Harris (26), Gerben van Dorpe (14) and Irv Conwell (13), but fell, 81-73, to Weber State last night in the first round of the Super Chevy Shootout in Iowa City, Iowa.

Conwell tied a tournament record with six steals, but the Mountaineers could not overcome 29 points from the Wildcats' Damien Baskerville.

Johns Hopkins 74, Brandeis 52: Greg Roehrig hit eight of nine field-goal attempts and scored 23 points -- 15 in the first half -- as the visiting Blue Jays raced to a 44-26 intermission lead.

Salisbury State 107, Villa Julie 88: Colin Exelby scored 29 points in 20 minutes on 8-for-12 three-point shooting and all but one Sea Gull scored in the opening round of the Salisbury Optimist Gull Classic. Salisbury State improved to 2-3. The Mustangs dropped to 0-5.

St. Mary's 75, Mary Washington 64: The visiting Eagles (1-3) led just 29-27 at halftime, but got double-digit scoring from Demetrius Henson (19), Harvey Davis (16), Prince Inniss (16) and Derrick Heard (14) and shot 50 percent in the second half.


Navy 70, Penn 66: Becky Dowling scored 20 points and grabbed 17 rebounds as the visiting Midshipmen broke a 29-29 halftime tie to improve to 6-1.

Bowie State 48, Barber Scotia 22: Teresa Wilson led all scorers with eight points as the host Bulldogs improved to 4-0.

Johns Hopkins 74, Brandeis 55: Julie Anderson led all scorers with 25 points, and Leslie Ritter added 15 as the Blue Jays improved to 4-0 with a road win.

St. Mary's 58, Mary Washington 46: Erica Pearson led all scorers with 13 points, and Megan Van Wambeke chipped in with 11.

UMES 60, Wagner 50: Kristi Sheldon scored 11 points in just 10 minutes as the visiting Hawks improved to 3-2.
