Officials to dedicate update of Reisterstown Main Street today

December 05, 1997

State and county officials, with Reisterstown merchants and residents, are to dedicate today a long-discussed "streetscape" revitalization of the area's Main Street.

The $2 million project includes new benches, ornamental lighting, brick sidewalks and curb, gutter and road improvements for the short commercial stretch of Reisterstown Road that forms Main Street. The improvements are designed to draw shoppers to antiques shops and other stores in the business district.

The idea, which had been considered as early as 1980, moved ahead last year when state officials announced the project would be included in a $6.2 million state program to enhance streets in decaying commercial districts across Maryland.
