Aron's lawyers request a delay in Dec. 15 trial date

December 05, 1997|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

ROCKVILLE -- Lawyers for Ruthann Aron have asked a county circuit judge to postpone her trial, scheduled for Dec. 15, on murder solicitation charges because psychiatric tests will not be completed by then.

Barry H. Helfand, Aron's lead attorney, said the state had no objection to a continuance and that Judge Paul A. McGuckian probably will reschedule the trial for March.

Aron, an unsuccessful candidate for the Republican U.S. Senate nomination in 1994, has pleaded not criminally responsible to charges that she tried to hire a hit man to kill her husband and a Baltimore lawyer who had testified against her in a civil trial. She is living with a friend in Silver Spring under home detention.
