Zinman back on the road

December 03, 1997|By Stephen Wigler

BSO music director David Zinman, whose tour of Japan with the symphony was cut short last week because of an attack of kidney stones, left for Switzerland yesterday.

"I'm feeling fine," Zinman said.

The stone passed out of the conductor's system Monday, though tests showed that he is likely to be attacked by kidney stones again.

"[The doctors] tell you to change your lifestyle," Zinman said. "That's all fine and well until you go on tour and can't always choose what you eat."

The conductor will return to the United States in January, when he leads a tour of the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra that will include a stop in Washington Jan. 24.
