Brewers: Named Mike Caldwell pitching coach of Triple-A Louisville, Dwight Bernard pitching coach of Double-A El Paso and Don Money manager of Single-A Beloit.

Diamondbacks: Named Mark Connor pitching coach. Signed P Kirt Ojala.

Indians: Claimed IF Chad Fonville off waivers from White Sox.

Padres: Agreed to two-year contract with C Greg Myers, who had been with Braves. Placed P Rich Batchelor on waivers to give him unconditional release.

Rangers: Extended contracts of VP-GM Doug Melvin and manager Johnny Oates, both former Orioles, one year through 1999. Assigned OF Andrew Vessell outright to Triple-A Oklahoma.

Royals: Retained free-agent C Mike Macfarlane, who agreed to contract.


Timberwolves: Signed former Bullets F Tom Hammonds. Released F Clifford Rozier.


NCAA: Restored eligibility of basketball F Rashad Tucker, Southern Illinois' leading returning scorer.

Football Writers Association of America: Named Louisiana State G Alan Faneca, Nebraska DL Jason Peter and Nebraska DL Aaron Taylor finalists for Outland Trophy, which goes to nation's best interior lineman.

Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation: Named Marshall's Randy Moss, Florida's Jaquez Green and Louisiana Tech's Troy Edwards finalists for Biletnikoff Award, given to nation's outstanding receiver.

Patriot League: Named Towson DB Khalid McLeod and DB Jabari Garrett first-team all-league and LB Jim Colongo and RB Jason Corle second-team.

Maryland: Signed following baseball players: P Todd Ainsworth, P Raymond Wagner, C Kevin McDonald and IF Taylor Twellman.
