Columbia Bank opens 14th branch this year

The Columbia Bank has opened its 14th full-service branch, at the River Hill Village Center in Clarksville, near Routes 108 and 32.

The 2,400-square-foot facility is adjacent to the Giant supermarket that anchors the shopping center. A 900-square-foot drive-through, with three service lanes, is contained on a pad site.

Tim Macek has been named branch manager for the River Hill office, and Ruth Davey is assistant branch manager.

River Hill is the third of three branches opened by the bank this year. The others are in the Wilde Lake Village Center in Columbia and the Long Gate Center in Ellicott City. AlliedSignal Technical Services Corp. and Computer Sciences Corp. have been named 1997 winners of the Contractor Excellence Awards by NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt.

As holders of Goddard contracts in 1995, both companies recommended to NASA that they consolidate their efforts into a single performance-based contract, saving NASA more than $37 million. The consolidation resulted in AlliedSignal's winning the 1997 NASA Outstanding Achievement Award for continual improvement.

Winners of the Contractor Excellence Award are eligible to compete for the George M. Low Award, NASA's quality and excellence award.

Both companies are members of the Lockheed Martin team that is pursuing NASA's consolidated space operations contract, scheduled to be awarded next year.
