New positions

Renaissance Harborplace promotes McCarthy, Lucido

Renaissance Harborplace Hotel promoted Michael McCarthy to director of operations and Peggy Lucido to director of room operations.

McCarthy, previously executive housekeeper of the Renaissance hotel in Washington, will manage the day-to-day operations of the Inner Harbor hotel. He is a State University of New York graduate and Columbia resident. Lucido, an Ellicott City resident, graduated from Towson University and had been the hotel's front office manager.

Sylvan promotes McAfee, Adorno to vice president

Sylvan Learning Systems, the Baltimore-based international educational services company, named Irene McAfee and Judy Adorno vice presidents in its contract educational services division.

McAfee, a Pittsburgh University graduate and formerly a director of standardized testing for the St. Paul (Minn.) Public School System, will head the division's research branch. Adorno, a 20-year veteran of the education and child care fields, will oversee the operations arm of the unit.

Spaeth joins Shandwick as account executive

Shandwick (Baltimore) announced that Kevin Spaeth joined the Baltimore division of the national public relations firm as an account executive. Formerly communications manager for the Maryland chapter of the American Heart Association, he is a graduate of Siena College and resides in Belcamp.

Reiner is media buyer for Horich Parks

Horich Parks Advertising & Marketing named Susan Reiner to its staff as a media buyer. A published author of children's books and articles, the Severna Park resident and graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park was news director for WINX Radio in Rockville and a free-lance media buyer before joining the Baltimore ad agency.

Sharpe named manager at Mullin/Ashley

Mullin/Ashley Associates appointed Anne B. Sharpe business development manager at its Annapolis offices. She was an advertising sales representative with USA Today before coming to the Worton-based communications and market research firm. A graduate of the University of Alabama, she lives in Annapolis.

Lewis joins Provident as loan officer

Provident Bank of Maryland announced that Scott D. Lewis joined the Baltimore-based financial institution as a loan officer in the community lending department. He will conduct workshops and seminars, and serve as an advocate for first-time and low- to moderate-income homebuyers. The University of Maryland graduate is a certified housing counselor and lives in Silver Spring. He formerly was with Inner City Community Development Corp.

Commercial real estate

Paulson named a partner at Corridor Commercial

Corridor Commercial Real Estate Group announced that David R. Paulson has joined the Owings Mills-based broker as a partner. Formerly a vice president at the Svatos Co., he holds a master's degree in regional planning from the University of North Carolina.
