O'Neill confirmed as Balto. Co. fire chief

November 18, 1997|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

The Baltimore County Council last night unanimously confirmed Deputy Chief John F. O'Neill, a 26-year veteran, as fire chief.

He was County Executive C. A. Dutch Ruppersberger's third choice in as many years, leading Councilman Vincent J. Gardina, a Perry Hall Democrat, to joke, "We want to see if you can outlast your two predecessors."

Ruppersberger's first chief took office in 1994 and resigned within a year by mutual agreement. Paul Reincke came out of retirement to run the department until last month.
