November 17, 1997|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

A barn fire at Laurel Park yesterday caused $20,000 in damage but no horses were injured, according to Anne Arundel County EMS/Fire/Rescue.

Two employees who fought the flames before firefighters arrived were slightly injured but declined treatment, said Battalion Chief John Scholz. The employees also let the horses out of the barn.

A sprinkler system contained the fire, which broke out about 12: 46 p.m. in a straw-storage area outside the barn, Scholz said. He said the cause of the fire was being investigated.
