DeFrancesco, Gombert gain MAPGA honors

Wayne DeFrancesco, a teaching professional at Woodholme Country Club, and Bill Gombert, assistant pro at Bonnie View CC, were among those honored at the annual awards banquet of the Middle Atlantic PGA last night in Richmond, Va.

DeFrancesco, who tied for first in the Tournament of Champions (there was no playoff) and received points in every tournament for which he was eligible except the Maryland Open, earned the Player of the Year award. Gombert was named Assistant of the Year.

Earlier in the week, at the MAPGA fall meeting, Chuck Bassler, head pro at Willow Oaks CC in Richmond, Va., was elected president.
