Bulls: Placed G Steve Kerr (left knee bone bruise) on injured list.

Celtics: Announced they will retire No. 00 worn by former C Robert Parish. It will be 21st number retired by the franchise, 20 for players and the No. 2 for former coach Red Auerbach.

Mavericks: F Kurt Thomas (fractured right ankle) is out indefinitely.

Trail Blazers: Activated F Gary Trent from injured list. Waived G Sean Higgins.

Atlanta (ABL): Traded G Niesa Johnson, the league's top free-throw shooter, to the Long Beach StingRays for G Nicky McCrimmon and a 1998 first-round draft choice.

College

Metro Atlantic Athletic: Named Shawn Brennan assistant commissioner.

Capital Athletic: Goucher's Sarah Weaver (Towson High) was named the conference's Player of the Year after breaking her school single-season record of 20 goals and 48 points.

Penn: Fired George O'Neill, men's soccer coach.

Hockey

Sharks: Traded LW Viktor Kozlov to the Florida Panthers for a 1998 first-round draft choice. In a separate deal, the Sharks got LW Dave Lowry for a fifth-round pick in 1998 that originally belonged to Florida.
