Westminster man charged in robbery attempt

A Westminster man was being held without bail at the Carroll County Detention Center yesterday after his arrest late Monday on attempted robbery charges, state police said.

A man wearing a red and black jacket tried to take money from a cashier at the Amoco station at Route 140 and Englar Road about 11:25 p.m., according to charging documents.

A trooper found the man at a restaurant, where he told the cashier he worked. He was arrested after the cashier identified him as the one who tried to rob her.

Oscar W. Bennett, 40, told police he lives at a family shelter in the 200 block of Stoner Ave.


Westminster: Firefighters from Reese assisted Westminster at 11: 28 p.m. Monday, responding to a carbon monoxide alarm in the 400 block of London Court. Units were out one hour and 32 minutes.

Westminster: Firefighters responded at 2: 56 p.m. Monday to a fire alarm in the 400 block of Malcolm Drive. Units were out 15 minutes.

Westminster: Firefighters responded at 9: 12 a.m. Monday to a fire alarm in the 1600 block of Washington Road. Units were out 24 minutes.


Westminster: An employee of J. C. Penney Co. on North Center Street told police Monday that someone stole a VCR from a store display case. The loss was estimated at $190.
