Leon N. Jones, 56, Baltimore police officer

Leon N. Jones, a Baltimore police officer, died of cancer Tuesday at his Parkville home. He was 56.

The Norfolk, Va., native was an Army paratrooper for 10 years. He earned a Bronze Star in Vietnam in 1967.

He began working for the Police Department in 1970 and spent most of his time in the Western District's Community Relations Division. He was active in Lodge 3 of the Fraternal Order of Police.

Services are planned for 11 a.m. today at Rock Church, 1607 Cromwell Bridge Road.

Survivors include his wife, E. Jean Jones of Parkville; his mother, Flora Mae Freeman of Norfolk; three daughters, Carmella Stephens and Alisha Jones, both of Baltimore, and Joyce Cunningham of Old Bridge, N.J.; seven brothers, Alonzo Freeman, Stanley Freeman, Michael Freeman, Arthur Jones, Wesley Jones and Linwood Thompson, all of Norfolk, and Charles Jones of Washington; a sister, Shirley Thornton of Fayetteville, N.C.; and two grandchildren.
