Astros: Extended the contracts of manager Larry Dierker and general manager Gerry Hunsicker for one year through 1999. Named Harry Spillman roving minor-league field instructor and Ivan De Jesus roving minor-league, base-running instructor.

Braves: Named Jeff Cox manager of Triple-A Richmond. Announced RHP Mike Bielecki (Dundalk) declined an outright assignment to Richmond and will be a free agent.

Cardinals: Declined to exercise their 1998 option on 3B Scott Livingstone.

Indians: Exercised their 1998 option on RHP Charles Nagy.

Mariners: Declined to exercise their 1998 option on LHP Norm Charlton.

Padres: Agreed to terms with OF Derek G. Lee, OF Charles Poe and RHP Bob Wolff. Agreed to terms with RHP Archie Corbin, RHP Scott Davidson, RHP Kevin Lomon, RHP Carlos Reyes, RHP Mike Rossiter and C Creighton Gubanich on a one-year contracts.

Pirates: Agreed to terms with RHP Francisco Cordova on a three-year contract.

White Sox: Bought contract of LHP Doug Creek from Giants.

Basketball

Hawks: Signed G Randy Livingston. Released G Donald Whiteside.

Nuggets: Named director of player personnel Mike D'Antoni assistant coach.

College

Auburn: Announced that men's basketball F Jeremy Beasley has left the program.

Carquest Bowl: Announced resignation of Brian Flajole, executive director, to become vice president of golf operations for Raycom Sports. Named Mitch Morrall, son of former Colts quarterback Earl Morrall, as executive director. Announced the game will continue to be televised by TBS through 2000.

Providence: Extended the contract of men's basketball coach Pete Gillen through the 2004-05 season.

Hockey

Canucks: Signed their own free-agent F Alexander Mogilny.

Capitals: Returned LW Andrew Brunette on loan to AHL Portland.

Kings: Signed RW Russ Courtnall to a one-year contract.

Senators: Signed RW Alexandre Daigle to a one-year contract extension.

Soccer

Cleveland (NPSL): Signed F Chad James to a one-year developmental contract and M Bozidar Simic to a two-year contract.
