Sienna Biotech to close its Columbia operation FTC

Sienna Biotech Inc., a medical diagnostic test producer, plans to close its Columbia operation in March and merge with a sister company in Stillwater, Minn.

Sienna's parent, American Standard Cos. Inc., said all 80 Sienna employees have been offered employment at the new site. Sienna operates under the medical services division of the Piscataway, N.J.-based giant toilet and plumbing supplies manufacturer.

The consolidation will put Sienna with INCSTAR, which makes and markets a variety of laboratory medical testing products. American Standard bought INCSTAR in June.

Sienna, founded in 1990 by American Standard, makes a laser-based test system that can perform multiple tests on blood samples. The test received Food and Drug Administration approval for marketing last year.

American Standard said it hopes the consolidation leads to rapid development of new diagnostic products.

The publicly held company said yesterday that it expects the Sienna operation, in the Rivers Technology Park, to be shut down by March 31.
