Freedom District Lions to celebrate 50th year of service Wednesday

Freedom District Lions Club will celebrate its 50th year of service Wednesday at Turf Valley Country Club.

The Lionesses will mark their 13th anniversary the same evening.

The club also is launching its 21st annual citrus fruit sale. Cases of Florida navel oranges and ruby red grapefruit will sell for $10 a box.

Deadline for orders is Nov. 24.

The club's Vision Days raised more than $1,000 for eye disease research at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Fires

Sykesville: Firefighters from Sykesville, Gamber and Winfield responded to a kitchen fire in the 5900 block Cecil Way at 5: 24 p.m. Wednesday. Units were out 19 minutes.

Sykesville: Firefighters from Sykesville, Gamber and Liberty Road (Baltimore County) responded to a dishwasher fire in the 7100 block Macbeth Way at 10: 44 p.m. Wednesday. Units were out 34 minutes.
