A Millersville man accidentally shot himself in the leg with a sawed-off shotgun early yesterday, county police said.

Lawrence Lewis, 19, of the 200 block of Shell Circle was riding in a car playing with a loaded shotgun about 2: 30 a.m. as he and a friend pulled into the drive-through lane at Hardee's in the 1600 block of Crain Highway, police said.

As they drove through, the gun went off, wounding Lewis in his right calf, police said. The driver took Lewis to North Arundel Hospital, and Lewis threw the shotgun out of the car on the way, police said.

Hospital officials called police because they were treating a patient with a gunshot wound, and Lewis told an officer where the gun was thrown. Officers found the shotgun on Oak Manor Drive. Part of the barrel had been sawed off, police said.
