Severna Park gives first loss to Queen Anne's

Second-ranked Severna Park gave Queen Anne's its first loss of the season yesterday, 3-1, in a Class 4A East volleyball semifinal.

Julie Gosewisch had 24 kills and was 24-of-25 serving, with four aces, and Lauren Boyd was 19-of-20 serving, with 42 assists, for the visiting Falcons (17-1). Severna Park will make its eighth trip to the regional finals in 11 years.

No. 10 Annapolis 3, Glen Burnie 1: Kammi Cottrell and Emily Dammeyer combined for 16 kills as the host Panthers (14-1) advanced to their first Class 4A East region final. Annapolis visits Severna Park at 6 p.m. tomorrow.

No. 13 South River 3, Parkdale 1: Jessica Freeman had five kills and Caroline Tippett four as the Seahawks (10-6) advanced to the Class 2A East final.

Patuxent 3, Northeast-AA 0: Rachel Ciurca was 5-for-5 serving, with four assists and a kill for the overmatched Eagles (4-11) in the Class 3A East semifinal.

Girls soccer

Severn 2, St. Mary's-B 0: Carol Prickett and Emily Rodriquez scored for the Admirals in a Catholic B Division quarterfinal. Severn and Maryvale play in a semifinal at 5: 30 p.m. tomorrow at Patterson Park's Orton Field.
